It was one of the most disappointing pieces of news in recent Star Trek history, the apparent collapse of the Paramount movie franshise as not only Chris Pine appeared to step away from the role of Captain Kirk but Chris Hemsworth - his onscreen father - also backed away from a return to the role in the 14th big screen Trek adventure.

Speaking with Variety he explained his reasons for stepping back, and it wasn't the financial reaosns that were previously passed about.

“I didn’t feel like we landed on a reason to revisit that yet. I didn’t want to be underwhelmed by what I was going to bring to the table.”

Unusual reasoning, especially given J.J. Abrams was so keen to announce this 4th film at the time the excellent Star Trek Beyond was released.

Hopefully fresh eyes will find the story Hemsworth is hoping for, allowing this story to come to fruition, as well as the fabled Tarantino Trek which is still on the table.
