Speaking on the red carpet at the premiere of his latest film, The Kid Who Would Be King, Sir Patrick Stewart was asked about his forthcoming return to the role of Jean-Luc Picard in the hotly anticipated new CBS series which will arrive later this year.
He discussed the timeframe in which the show is set, and how things have moved on.
“In returning to Star Trek later in the year, the one thing that will be different about this version of Star Trek is that we have simply moved the whole narrative twenty years from when I last wore Jean-Luc’s uniform, so everything has aged. And we are…when the series gets released you will see things are very different than what they were.”
As any card-carrying Trek fan knows, Picard and Sir Patrick himself are a huge part of many peoples lives, and the actor is well aware of that.
“It gives me profound satisfaction to hear from people what an impact my role and the series had on their lives. I have heard truly extraordinary stories about how people were affected by it. And that makes me very proud for all of us who were in it; because they were a great company…are a great company!”
And the longevity of the new show? Previous comments pointed towards a multiple season show, and Sir Pat did nothing to contradict that, even when asked about making another Trek movie
“Oh lord, we are set up for possibly three years of this show, so if there is a film, it’s a long way off.”
